Do I need AutoCAD?

Which DXF versions are supported?

ASCII DXF from R12 through the latest (R2018 / AC1032). Binary DXF is supported too. DWG from R14 onwards via ODA.

Does it edit DXF?

No. Viewer only. For editing, use AutoCAD, LibreCAD (free), or QCAD.

Can I convert DXF to STL or DWG to DXF?

DWG-to-DXF is what the built-in converter does. DXF-to-STL is not yet supported — DXF is largely 2D and doesn't map cleanly to closed 3D meshes. On the roadmap.

Big DXF from a survey — will it open?

Yes. Survey DXFs with millions of point-cloud entries can be heavy; the viewer handles them but may take 10–30 seconds to render on the first open.
