What you can do with it

Textured OBJ from Blender and scans

The trickiest part of OBJ on mobile is the sidecar problem: an .obj alone gets you the geometry, but the colors and textures live in a .mtl file and one or more image files sitting next to it. Open3D handles that in the Files app: put the whole folder in iCloud Drive (or on your device), tap the .obj, and Open3D pulls the .mtl and textures next to it automatically.

3D scans from Polycam, Scaniverse and Kiri Engine are one common source. Blender exports for portfolio review are another.

FAQ

Do I need the .mtl and textures?

Only if you want colours and materials. The mesh geometry loads fine from the .obj alone; textures require the .mtl and image files sitting in the same folder.

How big an OBJ can I open?

iPhone 12 and up: ~150 MB comfortably (OBJ is verbose — binary GLB is much smaller for the same content). Older devices: ~50 MB.

Can I convert OBJ to STL or GLB?

On the roadmap, not yet shipping. For today, use a desktop tool like Blender or the free web converters.

Is it free?

Yes. Ad-supported, no IAP required.
