A vendor sends a .step file at 8pm and you're not at your workstation. Or a supplier's part is stuck in your inbox during a site visit. Install Open3D on the iPhone once — from then on, tap any .step, .stp, .iges or .igs and see the geometry inside a second. No CAD subscription, no cloud upload.

• Orbit and pinch-zoom through a full CAD assembly
• Measure real-world distances in mm, inches, or the model's own units
• Cross-section any axis — useful for spot-checking wall thickness on a supplier part

• Screenshot for a quick reply to the vendor: "here's the section — can you round this fillet?"

The mobile CAD review workflow

Most STEP-on-mobile use cases fall into one of three buckets: a client sent a part while you're travelling; a supplier's rev-3 needs a same-day sign-off; you're on a shop floor and need to sanity-check a fixture on your phone.

Historically all three meant either "wait until I'm at the workstation" or "give me a screenshot in Teams." Open3D closes that loop: tap, see, section, screenshot, reply. The full-fat CAD review still happens later at the desk, but the answer to "does this look roughly right?" happens now, on the phone.

Privacy: confidential parts don't touch a cloud

STEP files often carry NDA-scoped geometry — supplier IP, work-in-progress assemblies, medical or defense parts. Open3D's on-device tessellation matters here. Files stay inside the iOS app sandbox. Nothing is sent to us, nothing to Apple, nothing to any ad network.
