Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 June 2026
Open3D Viewer is a free 3D file viewer available as a website at open3d.app and as a mobile app for iOS and Android. This policy describes what we do, what we don't, and which third parties we work with — for both the website and the mobile app.
About this product — important disambiguation
"Open3D Viewer" is an independent product made by an individual developer. It is NOT affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or otherwise connected to the Open3D open-source library hosted at open3d.org (the C++/Python 3D data processing library originally developed by Intel ISL). Open3D Viewer does not use, link, or incorporate any code from the Open3D library or its forks. The "Open3D" in this product's name refers to opening 3D files; any name similarity is coincidental and not intended to suggest any association. All trademarks remain the property of their respective owners.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not upload your 3D files to any server. Files you drop, pick, or open are loaded directly into your device's memory and rendered locally on-device.
- We do not require an account, email, or sign-in.
- We do not store the names, contents, or metadata of your 3D files.
- We do not log which files you open, when, or how often.
- We do not access your location, contacts, photos, microphone, or other personal data sources.
- We have no first-party analytics, tracking pixels, or telemetry.
What is collected (mobile app)
The mobile app shows advertisements via Google AdMob. As part of serving ads, Google may access your device's Advertising ID (Android Advertising ID / Apple IDFA). This identifier is used by Google to deliver and measure ads. You can reset or limit ad personalization in your device settings:
- Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads → Delete advertising ID, or Opt out of Ads personalization.
- iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising → Personalized Ads (off).
On iOS, the system shows an App Tracking Transparency prompt the first time the app starts. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", AdMob serves non-personalized ads.
The app uses Firebase Crashlytics (Google) to receive automatic crash reports when the app crashes. Crash reports contain the device model, OS version, app version, and the technical stack trace. They do not contain your files, file paths, or any personal data.
Both AdMob and Crashlytics are operated by Google LLC. See Google's Privacy Policy for full details.
What is collected (website at open3d.app)
- Cloudflare, our hosting provider, processes standard web-server logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL) for abuse prevention and traffic statistics. These logs are retained per Cloudflare's standard policy and are never linked to your file contents.
- Google AdSense may serve advertisements on this site. Google uses cookies to serve relevant ads. You can opt out at google.com/settings/ads.
Permissions the mobile app requests
- Storage / file access: only when you tap the file picker. Used to read the file you select. We do not browse, scan, or index your storage.
- Camera (AR view): only when you tap the AR button. Used by Apple's Quick Look (iOS) or Google's Scene Viewer (Android) to render the model in your physical space. We do not record, save, or transmit camera frames.
- Internet: required for the AdMob ad request and Crashlytics crash uploads. The viewer itself runs entirely on-device.
Cookies and similar technologies
The mobile app does not set cookies. The website does not set any first-party cookies; third-party cookies from Google AdSense may be set when ads load, and are managed by Google.
Children's privacy
Open3D Viewer is a general-utility 3D viewer and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13.
In-app purchases
Open3D Viewer does not currently offer any in-app purchases or subscriptions. There are no purchase records to collect, store, or share.
Your rights
Because we do not collect personal data, there is nothing to request, modify, or delete from us. For any data Google AdMob, AdSense, or Crashlytics may hold about you, use the device-level opt-outs above or contact Google directly.
Changes to this policy
If we change how data is collected or shared, we will update this page and bump the "last updated" date above. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
